ALA Executive Board, Divisions Meet to Discuss Web Matters

Representatives of the American Library Association (ALA) Executive Board and its divisions met in Chicago, May 16, for a discussion of issues related to the ALA Web site.

It was agreed to form a joint task force of division and executive board representatives to make recommendations to strengthen associationwide polices and practices for the ALA Web page and how it links to other Web sites. Topics to be addressed include selection criteria, site maintenance and review.

The task force will be chaired by LAMA President Tom Wilding and will include representatives from the divisions, ALA Executive Board, ALA Council, Publishing Committee, Web Advisory Task Force and ALA staff. Any ALA policy recommendations will go to ALA Council at the ALA Annual Conference scheduled June 25-30 in New Orleans.

Divisions represented at the meeting were the American Association of School Librarians, the Association of College and Research Libraries, the Association of Library Collections and Technical Services, the Association of Library Service to Children, the American Library Trustee Association, Association of State and Cooperative Library Agencies, the Library Administration and Management Association, the Public Library Association, the Reference User Services Association and the Young Adult Library Services Association.

In addition to ALA President Symons, executive board members were incoming president Sarah Ann Long, past president Barbara J. Ford, Liz Bishop, Julie Cummins, Sally Gardner Reed and Patricia H. Smith.
